Kerwhizz

A quiz show with added whizz for young children.

Last updated

Kerwhizz is a British live-action animated children's television game show that aired on CBeebies between 2008 and 2011. Created by Tony Reed and Alan Robinson, the series combined CGI and live-action elements and was targeted at 4-to-6-year-olds. It is notable for its hybrid format and for being the subject of a copyright lawsuit that was decided in favor of the BBC.

Background

Kerwhizz was moderated by the Kerwhizzitor, played by Jacob Scipio, the only regular live-action character. Three teams of two CGI characters—each consisting of a human child racer and a part-living, part-mechanical animal pet—answered five rounds of multiple-choice questions.

Correct answers earned points and the chance to choose pod mods, which were unconventional accessories that could help or hinder their racing pods. After the quiz, the pods were assembled and raised into a CGI race world, where teams faced themed environments and unpredictable setbacks. The episode ended with the winner revealed and themed activities shown.
