Plot
Two centuries before the events of the film, the half-demon Inuyasha's father Toga defeated a powerful Chinese moth yōkai named Hyōga. A fragment of the Shikon Jewel frees Hyōga's son Menōmaru, who seeks to avenge his father's death and unleash the immense power sealed away with him. In feudal Japan, Inuyasha and his friends—Kagome, monk Miroku, demon slayer Sango, and fox demon Shippo—defeat a scorpion demon. Miroku and Sango separate from the group when Sango's nekomata companion Kirara runs off, leading them to Menōmaru's cave.
There, Menōmaru and his female minions Ruri and Hari confront them. Ruri copies Miroku's Wind Tunnel, and Hari curses Kirara to follow her. Menōmaru mind-controls Kagome to turn against Inuyasha. After the heroes are scattered by a blast, Menōmaru accesses the demonic power of his predecessors, becoming a new Hyōga and altering time and space by absorbing countless souls.
Kagome, possessed, pursues Inuyasha; she shoots him with a sacred arrow at the Sacred Tree, then regains control. Kikyo appears and forces Kagome to return to her own time. In the present, Kagome finds Tokyo covered in snow from Menōmaru's curse. She touches the tree Inuyasha was sealed to and communicates with him through thoughts.
Retrieving a piece of Kikyo's arrow from the tree, she shoots it into the well and returns to the feudal era, finding Inuyasha reawakened by Shippo, Myoga, and Kaede.
