Lore & Background

The series featured new characters such as the Frankenstones and the Cavemouse, as well as older characters including Penny, Wiggy, Moonrock, and Schleprock from 1971's The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show and 1972's The Flintstone Comedy Hour on CBS. It also included Captain Caveman from his own series on ABC (1977, three seasons). A series of gags, educational spots, games, how-to-draw segments, and a dance-of-the-week were featured in-between the six segments every week.

Reader's Guide

The Flintstone Comedy Show represents a late-era expansion of the Flintstones franchise, blending classic family antics with genre parodies and new characters. The Bedrock Cops segment fulfilled a concept originally discussed by Alan Reed in 1975, though Reed died in 1977 and was replaced by Henry Corden. The Dino and Cavemouse segments were the last project worked on by notable animation director Tex Avery. The show's repackaging as The Flintstone Funnies from 1982 to 1984 marked the final incarnation of The Flintstones to premiere on NBC. Reruns of Dino and the Cavemouse later aired on the Disney Channel adaptation of Wake, Rattle, and Roll, and several Captain Caveman segments were featured on Chip and Pepper's Cartoon Madness during fall 1991 on NBC.
