Synopsis

The Angel of Death sends an emissary, Adriano, to Earth to find a young woman named Isabela. Adriano falls in love with her and attempts to bargain her soul for that of her mean sister, Ruth. Death refuses the exchange but grants Isabela another chance: she will die if she commits a third sin. Meanwhile, Ruth mistreats her deaf brother Tomás, whom she blames for her troubles, and fights with family friend Diogo until realizing she loves him. Another story follows the romance of Gigi and Zé Paulo, watched by Zé Paulo's mother Vera, who disapproves of the poor girl. Vera herself hides a passion for Durval, the boyfriend of her sister Leonor, who is the mother of Isabela, Ruth, and Tomás. The mysterious Father Aurélio is actually Renato, an environmentalist persecuted by landowners. The Angel of Death descends to Earth as Diana and becomes interested in Renato.
