James C. Brewster
Co-founder of a schismatic Latter Day Saint sect.
James Colin Brewster was a co-founder of The Church of Christ (Brewsterite), a schismatic sect in the Latter Day Saint movement. Born in Black Rock, New York, he began claiming at age ten that the Angel Moroni had visited him, leading to his disfellowshipping from the Latter-day Saints in 1837. He later declared that a land called "Bashan" in the Rio Grande Valley was the new gathering place, and in 1850 led a wagon train to find it, but most of his followers deserted him.
