Todd Marchant
Two-way forward claimed on waivers in 2005 who won the 2007 Stanley Cup with the Ducks.
Todd Michael Marchant (born August 12, 1973) is an American former professional ice hockey player who spent 17 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He suited up for nine seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, nearly six with the Anaheim Ducks, just over a season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and one game with the New York Rangers. After starting his pro career with the Rangers and their AHL affiliate, he was traded to Edmonton for Craig MacTavish.
Known as one of the league's fastest skaters, Marchant used that speed primarily on defense. He scored a memorable overtime goal in Game 7 of the first round of the 1997 playoffs to eliminate the Dallas Stars, and led all players with three shorthanded goals that postseason—the first player to do so in eight years. He served as an alternate captain for the Oilers in his final seasons there. In 2003, he signed with Columbus as an unrestricted free agent.
After refusing to waive his no-trade clause, the Blue Jackets placed him on waivers, and Anaheim claimed him on November 21, 2005. He played the rest of the 2005–06 season with the Mighty Ducks, who reached the Western Conference Final before losing to his former Oilers team. The following season, with the newly renamed Anaheim Ducks, Marchant missed over 20 games due to injury but returned during the playoffs. He played a key role on the penalty kill and won his first Stanley Cup when the Ducks beat the Ottawa Senators in the 2007 Final.
He scored twice in a first-round loss to Dallas in 2008, and in 2009 he netted the game-winning goal in triple overtime of Game 2 against Detroit, though the Ducks lost that series in seven games. Marchant retired on June 29, 2011, after 17 NHL seasons. He remained with the Ducks as Director of Player Development and an assistant coach for their junior team until being fired in May 2022. That August, he was hired by the San Jose Sharks as their Director of Player Development.
Off the ice, Marchant and his wife Caroline have four children, and he runs a weeklong hockey clinic for kids ages 8 to 15, with all profits going to charities for disadvantaged youth in Western New York.
