The Barbarian and the Troll is an American television series that blends puppetry and comedy. It was created by Mike Mitchell and Drew Massey and aired on Nickelodeon between April 2 and June 25, 2021.
The story takes place in the kingdom of Gothmoria. Brendar, a fierce warrior princess, seeks revenge after an attack on her family. Her path crosses with Evan, a lively bridge troll who longs for adventure and a chance to perform his songs. Together, they aim to save their kingdom and fulfill their personal dreams. Their quest soon gains companions: Horus the wizard, his daughter Stacey (who has been transformed into an owl), and Horus’ enchanted axe.
Spencer Grammer voices Brendar, a barbarian warrior on a mission to kill the demon responsible for her mother’s death and her younger brother’s disappearance. Drew Massey voices Evan, a troll prince who joins the group to pursue his ambition of becoming a bard. Other credited voice and puppet performers include Colleen Smith, Allan Trautman, Sarah Sarang Oh, Peggy Etra, James Murray, Nicolette Santino, Jeny Cassady, and Gina Yashere.
The series was initially announced on September 23, 2020, under the working title *Brendar the Barbarian*, with production scheduled to start later that year. Filming took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The puppeteer team included Drew Massey, Colleen Smith, Allan Trautman, Sarah Sarang Oh, Nicolette Santino, Peggy Etra, James Murray, and Jeny Cassidy. Phil LaMarr and Gina Yashere were confirmed as voice actors, with LaMarr voicing a knight named Steve.
