Super Buddies (film)

Super Buddies, a 2013 American superhero comedy, marks the seventh movie in the Air Buddies series and the twelfth overall in the Air Bud franchise. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment put it out on DVD, Blu-ray, and as a digital download on August 27, 2013. It stood as the franchise's final installment for several years.

The story picks up a year after the previous film. Bartleby and his dog Budderball are spending summer at the farm of Bartleby’s grandfather, Marvin. For his twelfth birthday, Bartleby gets the first issue of the comic *Kid Courageous and Captain Canine*, which tells how Captain Canine came from the peaceful planet Inspiron. The alien warlord Drex invaded, trying to steal the Rings of Inspiron. The soldier Captain Megasis was ordered to take the Rings to Earth, despite Queen Jorala’s objections. During the escape, Drex attacked, seemingly died, and Megasis landed safely on Earth with the Rings.

While celebrating, Bartleby’s dogs find the Rings in a barn. Bartleby recounts the comic’s story: after landing in suburban Seattle, Megasis took dog form to hide from police and searched for the Rings. He met a boy named Jack, and they fought crime as Kid Courageous and Captain Canine, with Jack turning their adventures into comics.

The next day, Captain Canine detects the Rings’ energy. He and a now-grown Jack track them, alongside Drex, who survived. The Rings give the dogs superpowers—super speed to Rosebud, invisibility to Mudbud, super strength to Budderball, flexibility to B-Dawg, and telekinesis to Buddha—so they decide to use them for good. Drex lands near the farm, possesses a pig, and searches for the Rings. Marvin sees this and calls Sheriff Dan, who doesn’t believe him. Dan leaves to investigate a call about Drex stealing Marvin’s truck and crashing it into city hall, where he arrests Drex. Bartleby and the kids find Drex’s pod and realize he’s arrived, while the dogs, with Captain Canine’s help, save a girl from a house fire.

The kids learn of the dogs’ heroics from the news. Drex swaps bodies with Dan, escapes jail, and captures the kids when they try to meet Dan. He locks them in a barn and uses his pod to direct a meteor toward Fernfield, causing a lightning storm. Captain Canine faces Drex and is killed, but the Buddies use their training to overwhelm him.
