Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a 2023 American superhero film featuring the DC character Shazam. It was produced by New Line Cinema, DC Films, and the Safran Company, and released by Warner Bros. Pictures. The movie serves as a follow-up to the 2019 film *Shazam!* and is the thirteenth entry in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). David F. Sandberg directed it, with a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan. The cast includes Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, D. J. Cotrona, Grace Caroline Currey, Meagan Good, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou, and Helen Mirren. The story centers on Billy Batson, also known as Shazam, and his foster siblings as they battle the Daughters of Atlas to protect Earth.

Work on a sequel started soon after the first film came out in April 2019. Gayden returned to write, with Morgan later joining to revise his script. Sandberg and Levi were confirmed to return by December of that year. The movie's title and the rest of the returning cast were announced in August 2020. Rachel Zegler, Helen Mirren, and Lucy Liu were cast as the Daughters of Atlas in early 2021. Filming began in May 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia, and wrapped up in August.

*Shazam! Fury of the Gods* premiered at the Fox Village Theatre in Los Angeles on March 14, 2023, and hit theaters in the United States on March 17. Unlike its predecessor, the film received mixed reviews from critics and underperformed at the box office, earning $134 million worldwide against a production budget of $110–125 million.

**Plot**

Four years after defeating Thaddeus Sivana, Hespera and Kalypso, daughters of the Titan Atlas, break into the Acropolis Museum in Athens to steal the Wizard's broken staff. They take it to the Wizard, who is imprisoned in the Gods' Realm, and force him to repair it and reactivate its powers.

In Philadelphia, Billy Batson and his "Shazamily" are growing apart as they get older and focus on their own interests. One day, they rescue people when the Benjamin Franklin Bridge is damaged, but they face criticism for failing to prevent the collapse and for other recent collateral damage. The public dubs them "The Philly Fiascos." Billy worries he will be kicked out of the Vasquez family home when he turns eighteen. In a dream, the Wizard warns him about the Daughters of Atlas, prompting the Shazamily to research them.
