Aether Records

Aether Records is a label based in Indianapolis, Indiana. It focuses on reissuing obscure rock albums from the 1960s and 1970s, alongside new music with a neo-psychedelic sound. The label originated from OR Records, which was started in Indianapolis in 1993 by two local collectors, Jade Hubertz and Stan Denski. A third partner, Rick Wilkerson, joined the following year. OR Records’ first release was a 300-copy vinyl reissue of the 1977 album “Into You” by the Indianapolis band McKay.

OR Records released a total of fourteen 12-inch records, one 10-inch record, one 7-inch record, and three CDs. Its catalog includes albums by McKay, Rayne, Smokin’ Willie, Locksley Hall, Wildfire, Fairfield Sky, Dawnwind, Anonymous, J Rider, Many Bright Things, Windopane, George Brigman & Split, Creamy, Problematics, and Chrome Hudson. The Aether (and Aether Archives) label issued ten LPs and six CDs, including releases by Tombstone Valentine, Many Bright Things, In The Summer Of The Mushroom Honey, Kaminumada Yohji, Mushroom, Vas Deferens Organization, Mazinga Phaser, and various-artists compilations.

Notable details from the label’s history include two simultaneous versions of the George Brigman LP: a regular edition of 1,000 copies and a limited edition of 375 numbered copies with a paste-on sleeve and hand-drawn labels. A promotional box set of three colored vinyl pressings—Tombstone Valentine, Vas Deferens Organization “Saturation,” and Mazinga Phaser “Cruising in the Neon Glories of the New American Night”—was made in 200 copies. The Aether Limited Vinyl Series consisted of four albums, each pressed in 475 copies and housed in a top-loading textured red heavy cardboard sleeve.
