History and development
Geoff Ramsey's interest in gaming achievements led him to notice that no community-based website about achievements existed. Since Ramsey and Burnie Burns, then Rooster Teeth CEO, were both avid achievement fans who competed to earn the most achievements in their spare time, Ramsey proposed creating a website where gamers could find information on obtaining specific achievements. Burns agreed, and Ramsey built Achievement Hunter with a design similar to the main Rooster Teeth site.
Ramsey later stated he had grown tired of making Red vs. Blue and enjoyed this new creative outlet. David Dreger also helped found the site. In 2011, Ryan Haywood was hired as an editor and manager, later becoming a host in March 2012. That year, four new shows debuted, including Rage Quit, which led to Michael Jones being hired full-time in August 2011.
Gavin Free was hired in 2012 after years of assisting the company. Game Night, featuring Ramsey and Caleb Denecour playing with community members, started in March 2012 and switched to a live stream format in 2014. Ray Narvaez Jr., a former contract host, was hired in April 2012. In September 2012, editor Franco Scarcello created Five Facts, hosted by Pattillo and Ramsey, which was not renewed for a sixth season in May 2016.
Let's Play Live
Let's Play Live! was a live stage show put on by Rooster Teeth, where the Achievement Hunter crew played video games and did comedy bits in front of an audience. The very first show happened on February 20, 2015, at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas. The following year, 2016, saw three more performances: one at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on June 17, another at the Chicago Theatre on August 19, and a final one at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on October 8. Those 2016 events also included guests from other groups in the Let's Play network, like Funhaus, ScrewAttack, Kinda Funny, Cow Chop, and The Creatures. In 2017, four shows made up the East Coast Tour, running from April 24 to 30. The tour stopped at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, Hard Rock Live in Orlando, and the Straz Center in Tampa.
Charity
Achievement Hunter, along with other Rooster Teeth members, works with various charities to raise money through livestreams and other methods. Jack Pattillo, who serves as Rooster Teeth's Charity Director, organizes events, promotes them on the Achievement Hunter page, and asks fans and friends to participate. He stated that when Rooster Teeth calls on its fans to support a cause, they can be counted on to make a huge impact. Through cooperation between Make-A-Wish and Rooster Teeth, Achievement Hunter members met teenager Erik Battany during RTX in August 2015, playing an Assassin's Creed Syndicate mission with him.
