Godhead (sometimes written as gODHEAD) is an American rock band from Washington, D.C. They were the only act signed to Marilyn Manson's short-lived vanity label, Posthuman Records.
The group started in 1994 under the name Blind, but played their first show as Godhead that April in Fairfax, Virginia. After years of relative obscurity, Marilyn Manson noticed them, and in 2000 they signed with his label. That deal led to their breakthrough album, *2000 Years of Human Error*, released in January 2001. The record caught the attention of Ozzy Osbourne, earning Godhead a slot performing on the second stage at Ozzfest that year. The album featured contributions from Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez, original Marilyn Manson guitarist Scott Putesky (formerly Daisy Berkowitz), and Manson himself. Though Posthuman Records later dissolved, the band continued to build a following. In their early years, they were managed by Scott Cohen.
Drummer James O'Connor left after the recording of the band's fifth album, *Evolver*. He was replaced by Tom Z, who stayed only briefly before Ty Smith took over. Both Static-X's Wayne Static and Reeves Gabrels (known for his work with David Bowie) contributed to *Evolver*, released in 2003. In 2005, frontman Jason C. Miller asked O'Connor to return as drummer; O'Connor accepted but left again in 2006 after finishing *The Shadow Line*. Glendon Crain then replaced him. On March 24, 2008, the band announced that Ty Smith of Bullets and Octane would take over on drums. Around the same time, they revealed plans for a DVD of a special acoustic performance in Los Angeles and confirmed work on a seventh studio album. That album, later titled *At the Edge of the World*, included new studio material and five remixes, with artwork by English artist Sam Shearon.
Over their career, Godhead has toured with Ozzfest, Marilyn Manson, Disturbed, Rammstein, Mudvayne, Orgy, Static-X, Ra, Ill Niño, The Dreaming, Gravity Kills, SOiL, and American Head Charge, as well as headlining their own shows. From late October to December 2007, they toured supporting Jonathan Davis and the SFA. Jason C. Miller owns Central Command Studios and released his first solo album, *Last to Go Home*, in October 2009.
Godhead's music has been described as industrial rock, gothic rock, and nu metal.
