The band was founded by Gen while attending Rollins College. Their first performance was at the Ocean Club in Cocoa Beach, Florida, in late 1990, sharing the bill with Declared Ungovernable, Belching Penguins, and the Rhythm Pigs. After undergoing personnel changes, they became part of the 1990s Florida hardcore scene alongside contemporaries like Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids.

In 1993, IRS Records owner Miles Copeland III sent his assistant Nick Turner to see the band, leading to a record contract. They recorded their debut album 120 Days of Genitorture, which was released in 1994. Morbid Angel bassist David Vincent (Gen's husband) joined the band around 1995, after the debut album was completed. The band toured extensively in the United States, Japan, and Europe, gaining international renown for their flamboyant BDSM-themed shows, which led to appearances on VH1, Fox News, Hard Copy, HBO's Real Sex, and Playboy TV's Sexcetera.

Their EP Flesh Is the Law includes the track "Lecher Bitch," featured in the 2004 video game Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. In 2004, the band appeared in a 12-page spread in Hustler magazine, described as "the world's sexiest band." Their last album, Blackheart Revolution, was released in 2009. On Halloween 2020, during a livestream, they debuted their first new song in 11 years, "Scars & Stripes Forever."
