Hollywood week
Hollywood week was filmed December 2–5, 2019, at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. In the first round, contestants chose a song from a selection of genres. Instead of group performances, contestants paired up for duets with twelve hours of rehearsal. Judges could advance either, neither, or both contestants to the final solo round.
Showcase round
The Showcase round aired March 29 and April 5, featuring the top 40 performing at Disney's Aulani resort in Hawaii. The judges narrowed the field to 20. The twentieth spot was decided by public vote between Grace Leer and Lauren Mascetti, revealed on April 19.
Finals
After a hiatus, all contestants performed remotely due to COVID-19 safety measures. The ten contestants with the most votes continued; the judges used a one-time save for Makayla Phillips. Each contestant performed two songs: one from a Disney movie and one for Mother's Day. Former contestants including Alejandro Aranda, Fantasia, and others sang with the top 11 and Lionel Richie.
