Punk'd
Celebrity pranks caught on hidden camera.
Last updated
Created by Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg, with Kutcher serving as producer and host, the show featured pranks on celebrities.
History and format
The series originated from a concept called Harassment, a hidden camera show targeting ordinary people. Pranks were set in various public and private locations. One early prank at Justin Timberlake's home made him believe government agents were seizing his property over unpaid taxes; Time magazine ranked it #3 on its list of 32 Epic Moments in Reality-TV History. The very first prank involved Frankie Muniz's custom Porsche being stolen.
During the first two seasons, a segment featured cast members posing as reporters at red carpet events to mock celebrities, a format copied from The Howard Stern Show. Accomplices included Jill Wagner, Masi Oka, B. J. Novak, Caitlyn Taylor Love, Dax Shepard, and Bill Hader. New field agents were introduced each season as targets recognized previous cast members.
