History

Follow for Now came together in 1987, founded by David Ryan Harris on guitar and vocals, Chris Tinsley on guitar, Justin Senker on bass, and drummer Enrique, whose real name was Bernard Coley. Their name was pulled from a line in Public Enemy's "Bring the Noise." The group built a reputation for explosive live performances that often involved call-and-response exchanges with the crowd, blending hard rock, funk, soul, jazz, ska, and heavy metal into their sound. Senker left in 1989, with Jamie Turner taking over on bass, and the lineup grew to five when Billy Fields joined on keyboards and vocals. In 1990, Follow for Now headlined a show at Atlanta's Center Stage Theater without a record deal, while the two opening acts had contracts. Chrysalis Records signed them soon after, and their self-titled debut album came out in 1991. Rolling Stone gave it a positive review, but fans were let down that producer Matt Sherrod handled most of the drumming, pushing aside Enrique's unconventional style. Chrysalis put significant promotion behind the album, yet sales were weak, though a cover of Public Enemy's "She Watch Channel Zero?!" drew some attention. The band couldn't manage a second album and split up in 1994. Harris went on to serve as musical director for Dionne Farris and worked on her 1995 album Wild Seed – Wild Flower. He signed with Sony Records as a solo act in 1997, releasing his own records and collaborating widely; he is also the father of rapper Baby Tate. Billy Fields later joined Arrested Development.
