The Heroes of Olympus

The Heroes of Olympus is a five-book fantasy series by American writer Rick Riordan. It forms the second installment in the four-series Camp Half-Blood Chronicles, coming after Percy Jackson & the Olympians and before The Trials of Apollo. The story focuses on a war involving Greek demigods, Roman demigods, and the earth goddess Gaea.

While it can be read on its own, the series is intended to follow Percy Jackson & the Olympians. Riordan brings Roman mythology into the narrative, along with several fresh characters, most of whom belong to the Roman camp, Camp Jupiter. The first book, *The Lost Hero*, came out on October 12, 2010, and the last, *The Blood of Olympus*, was published on October 7, 2014. A follow-up series, *The Trials of Apollo*, continues the story.

**Plot**

The plot of *The Heroes of Olympus* revolves around a prophecy first mentioned in *The Last Olympian*. It foretold that seven demigods would join forces to defend the world from a new threat: the awakening earth goddess Gaea. Demigods from the Greek camp, Camp Half-Blood, and the newly discovered Roman camp, Camp Jupiter, come together to stop Gaea from destroying the world.

The seven demigods are Annabeth Chase, Leo Valdez, Percy Jackson, and Piper McLean from Camp Half-Blood, along with Jason Grace, Frank Zhang, and Hazel Levesque from Camp Jupiter. Other key figures include Nico di Angelo, son of Hades; Reyna Ramirez-Arellano, the Roman praetor and daughter of Bellona; and the satyr Gleeson Hedge.

***The Lost Hero***

The story starts with Jason, Piper, and Leo—three newly discovered demigods—arriving at Camp Half-Blood in response to a prophecy. They embark on a quest to stop the giant king Porphyrion from being reborn and to rescue Piper’s father, who has been taken by another giant, Enceladus. Jason, suffering from amnesia, gradually recalls parts of his past, most notably that he comes from a Roman demigod camp. Camp Half-Blood decides to find this other camp, hoping to gain allies against Gaea and the giants, and also to locate the missing demigod Percy Jackson.

***The Son of Neptune***

Percy Jackson wakes up with amnesia and stumbles into Camp Jupiter, where he meets several Roman demigods. After Mars gives him a prophecy, Percy, Frank Zhang, and Hazel Levesque travel to Alaska.
