The series follows Firekeeper, a woman raised by highly intelligent, magically enhanced wolves. Her mother died, and the wolves raised her; her claim to the throne of Hawk Haven comes from her biological father, not from her mother's arrangement. Human society often views her as an oddity or a freak. As the series progresses, Firekeeper is drawn into human politics and must contend with the maniacal Melina Shield, who desires power above all else. This premise covers the first three books.

Reader's Guide

The Firekeeper Saga began with Through Wolf's Eyes in 2001, published by Tor Books, which also released the next four novels through 2007. The series then moved to Obsidian Tiger, which published Wolf's Search (2019) and Wolf's Soul (2020). Cover art for the Tor editions was created by Julie Bell, whom Lindskold credited with 'second look covers' that demand the reader pause to grasp the novel's true nature. Bell also created the cover for Wolf's Search, and the cover for Wolf's Soul was based on her piece 'Three Hungry Wolves'. In 2006, Dabel Brothers Productions acquired the comic license, with Sean Jordan as script writer and director. Critical reception has been positive, with praise for Lindskold's portrayal of wolves and her world and characters.
