Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (TV series)
A dark coming-of-age story of a half-witch teenager.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a supernatural horror series from the United States, created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa for Netflix. It draws from the Archie comic book series of the same name. The show aired from October 2018 to December 2020, spanning two seasons that were released as four separate parts. Production came from Warner Bros. Television, working with Berlanti Productions and Archie Comics. Executive producers included Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater, and Lee Toland Krieger.
The story centers on Sabrina Spellman, an Archie Comics character played by Kiernan Shipka. The main cast also featured Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Jaz Sinclair, Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Lachlan Watson, Gavin Leatherwood, and Richard Coyle. The project was first developed in September 2017 for the CW, where it was meant to be a companion to *Riverdale*. By December 2017, it moved to Netflix with a straight-to-series order of twenty episodes. Filming took place in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The first ten episodes dropped on October 26, 2018. Critics gave the series positive reviews, praising Shipka’s performance, the concept, the visuals, and the direction. A Christmas special followed on December 14, 2018, and the remaining nine episodes of the first season arrived on April 5, 2019. In December 2018, Netflix renewed the show for a second season of sixteen episodes, split into two equal parts. The first eight aired on January 24, 2020, and the final eight on December 31, 2020.
Netflix canceled the series in July 2020 for creative reasons, citing the show's natural conclusion. Two crossovers with *Riverdale* occurred during that show’s sixth season, serving as a backdoor series finale, with Shipka reprising her role. A comic book continuation called *The Occult World of Sabrina* was also announced.
**Premise** The series is set in the fictional town of Greendale. It follows a dark coming-of-age story filled with horror, fear, and witchcraft.
