Charmed
A fantasy drama about three witch sisters protecting innocents.
Charmed is an American fantasy drama television series that aired on The WB from October 7, 1998, to May 21, 2006. The show was created by Constance M. Burge, produced by Aaron Spelling and Spelling Television, and had Brad Kern as showrunner. It centers on three sisters known as The Charmed Ones, who are the most powerful good witches ever. They rely on their combined "Power of Three" to defend innocent people from demons, warlocks, and other evil forces. Each sister has a unique magical ability that grows and changes over time, all while they try to live ordinary lives in modern-day San Francisco. Keeping their supernatural identities hidden from the everyday world proves difficult, often straining their relationships and leading to multiple police and FBI investigations throughout the series. The story initially focuses on the Halliwell sisters: Prue (Shannen Doherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs), and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano).
The series developed a cult following and gained popularity on The WB. Its debut episode, "Something Wicca This Way Comes," drew 7.7 million viewers, setting a record for the network's highest-rated premiere. While its ratings were lower than those of shows on the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox), Charmed was a success for the smaller, newer WB. The show moved through several timeslots across its eight seasons. In season five, it shifted to Sunday at 8:00 pm, where it became the highest-rated Sunday night program in WB history. With 178 episodes, Charmed was the second-longest drama on The WB, behind 7th Heaven. In 2006, it held the record as the longest-running hour-long series with an all-female lead cast until Desperate Housewives surpassed it in 2012.
The series earned numerous awards and nominations. In 2010, The Huffington Post and AOL TV included Charmed in their joint list of "The Top 20 Magic/Supernatural Shows of All Time." In 2013, TV Guide ranked it among "The 60 Greatest Sci-Fi Shows of All Time." Charmed has also been referenced frequently in film and television and influenced later shows in the same genre. Its success led to other media, including a video game, board games, soundtracks, novels, and a comic book series that continued the story. According to 2012 data from The NPD Group, Charmed was the second-most binge-watched series on subscription video-on-demand services like Netflix.

Lore & Background
The series begins in 1998 when Phoebe Halliwell returns from New York and moves into the family's Halliwell Manor in San Francisco with her sisters Prue and Piper. After discovering the Book of Shadows, Phoebe reads an incantation that activates the sisters' supernatural powers. Prue possesses telekinesis and later astral projection; Piper has molecular immobilization and later the ability to cause evil beings to explode; Phoebe has premonition, later levitation and empathy. In the third season, Prue is killed by the demon Shax, and the sisters discover a younger half-sister, Paige Matthews, the daughter of their mother and a whitelighter. Paige has a unique form of telekinesis requiring verbal commands, and can orb and heal.
