Castlevania (TV series)

Castlevania is an adult-oriented animated series blending action and horror, produced in the United States for Netflix. Warren Ellis and Adi Shankar created the show, which draws from Konami’s Japanese video game franchise. The first two seasons adapt *Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse* (1989), centering on Trevor Belmont, Alucard, and Sypha Belnades as they protect Wallachia from Dracula and his forces. Later seasons incorporate elements from *Castlevania: Curse of Darkness* (2005), while Alucard’s backstory primarily draws from original material with references to *Castlevania: Symphony of the Night* (1997). Critics praised the visuals, animation, voice acting, action scenes, character work, themes, and writing, though the pacing—especially in the third and fourth seasons—received mixed reactions.

A sequel series, *Castlevania: Nocturne*, premiered on Netflix on September 28, 2023. It follows Richter Belmont, a descendant of Trevor and Sypha, alongside Maria Renard during the French Revolution, with James Callis returning as Alucard.

**Premise** After his human wife, Lisa, is burned at the stake on false charges of witchcraft, the vampire Vlad Dracula Țepeș vows that all of Wallachia will suffer. He summons a demon army that overruns the country, slaughtering its people and leaving survivors in fear and distrust. Trevor Belmont, the last of a legendary monster-hunting family, rises to fight Dracula’s forces with help from the magician Sypha Belnades and Dracula’s dhampir son, Alucard.
