The Gordons are an American folk music duo composed of husband and wife Gary Gordon and Roberta Gordon. They have been performing professionally since 1973.
Career
The Gordons began touring the Midwestern United States in the 1970s, playing clubs, fairs, festivals, and colleges. Their popularity later extended to the Carolinas, the Northeastern United States, and Europe. In 1989 they recorded with Dobroist Josh Graves and bluegrass fiddler Kenny Baker, both from Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys, resulting in the album Old Time Radio Show.
The following year they released Wasn't Born To Follow, a more country-flavored record featuring fiddler Wade Ray. In 1996 the duo toured Ireland and performed live on Ireland's RTÉ television network in Dublin. Their 1997 album End of a Long Hard Day was praised by Billboard critic Edward Morris, who compared them to Flatt & Scruggs, and by Dirty Linen magazine, which called it touching, sad, and beautiful. A live album, Live in Holland, documenting their European tours, arrived in 1999.
Time Will Tell Our Story (2002) featured guest musicians Alison Brown and Robert Bowlin. Their 2008 album Our Time, released on their own label, was played so frequently on folk and bluegrass radio that it ranked as the No. 10 record of the year on folk radio. Occasionally they tour with a larger ensemble that includes David Johnson, longtime fiddler for Randy Travis.
