Background
Kirk Pasich, an entertainment and insurance lawyer, founded Blue Élan Records with his son Connor in 2014 to release Cindy Alexander's sixth album, Curve. Kirk had met Alexander during the production of StarTomorrow, and after learning about her recent cancer treatment, he visited her studio while she was recording. Shortly after that meeting, the label was formed, and Curve came out in 2014. Over the next four years, the roster grew to include Rita Coolidge, Janiva Magness, Jesse Dayton, Rod Melancon, Gerry Beckley, and Rusty Young.
In 2017, Janiva Magness earned a Best Contemporary Blues Album Grammy nomination for her Blue Élan release Love Wins Again. KT Tunstall joined the label and announced her album Nut on June 1, 2022; the album, her seventh studio release, came out on September 9, 2022. The label has also partnered with the Alliance for Children's Rights, a legal fund helping children in poverty access free legal services.
