Poledo

Poledo were a three-piece alternative rock band from Thornhill, Ontario, made up of Joshua Malinsky (vocals, bass), Mitch Roth (vocals, guitar), and Dave Capogna (drums). Their sound relied on loud, heavily distorted guitar and screamed vocals.

Formed in 1994, the group first put out two independent cassettes, Buzz Muffin and Let Up, before signing with Sonic Unyon. Their debut full-length, There, You, came out on that label in 1995, and the following year they shared a split 7-inch single, Lunar Landing Confirmed, with Hayden on Squirtgun Records. Both releases charted on Canadian campus radio in 1996, and the band toured as far west as Vancouver that year.

In March 1997, they recorded new songs with Hayden engineering, intended for a second album that never happened. These tracks later appeared as The Poledo Demos in 1998; two of them were re-recordings of songs from the 1994 Buzz Muffin tape. The band broke up in December 1997, playing their final show on January 25, 1998, at Club Shanghai in Toronto. After that, Malinsky and Roth both joined Hayden’s touring band.

The track "Just Don't Care" (from There, You) was re-released on Sonic Unyon’s 1998 compilation Now We Are 5, and "Herskin"—recorded during the same April 29, 1996 session as "Two Words" from the split single—appeared on Squirtgun’s More of Our Stupid Noise in 1996. Malinsky later performed solo as Kid Lunch, releasing a self-titled CD in 1999 on Teenage USA and a second album, Volume 2, in 2020.
