History

Kill the Lights was formed after Michael Thomas left Bullet for My Valentine in 2016, seeking a heavier and more organic metal sound. The original lineup included James Clark on vocals, Jordan Whelan on guitar, Travis Montgomery on guitar, and Davey Richmond on bass. Their debut single 'The Faceless' was released in January 2019. The debut album 'The Sinner' came out on August 21, 2020, featuring singles 'The Faceless', 'Through The Night', 'Shed My Skin', and 'Watch You Fall'. Released during the COVID-19 pandemic, touring was limited. Metal Hammer rated the album 4/5, while Kerrang! gave it 2/5. Colin Richardson produced the album. After its release, bassist Davey Richmond left; Chris Clancy briefly joined as bassist and contributed to production. In 2021, former Bullet for My Valentine bassist Jason 'Jay' James officially joined. The band released standalone singles 'Chasing Shadows', 'Voices', and a cover of Metallica's 'Battery'. Their second album 'Death Melodies' was released on March 8, 2024, via Fearless Records. Recorded in Canada, Minneapolis, and the United Kingdom, it was produced by Colin Richardson and Chris Clancy. Themes include anxiety, depression, addiction, and personal struggle. Kerrang! rated it 3/5, calling it confident and rooted in early-2000s melodic metal influences.
