History

The earliest sports club in Landskrona was GF Idrott, founded in 1882. Another early club, Landskrona Velocipedklubb, built a cycling track in 1893 that included a grass field, which later became the first home ground of Landskrona BoIS. In 1894, football was introduced to a wider audience at that pitch through an exhibition game between players of Malmö Velocipedklubb, attended by 700 spectators. After a ban on totalizators in 1896 reduced interest in cycling, Landskrona Velocipedklubb transferred its ground to the town.

GF Idrott formed football and other sections, becoming a leading football club in Scania, but its middle-class appeal and focus on other disciplines led to decline during the 1910s. Meanwhile, the club Diana appealed to socialist and sobriety movement subcultures and had a formal leadership structure. IFK Landskrona contributed mainly players. On 7 February 1915, Diana and IFK Landskrona merged to form Landskrona BoIS, with Diana's former chairman Bror Nilsson becoming the first chairman, a role he held until the end of the 1940s.

Until summer 1924, the club played at Velocipedbanan, known locally as Banan. In July 1918, BoIS played their first match abroad, against Copenhagen-based KFUM.

Stadiums

Landskrona BoIS initially played at a cycling track built in 1893, locally called Banan, which was also the site where football was first introduced in Landskrona. This ground served as the home for the club and its predecessors IK Diana and IFK Landskrona until 1924. That year, Landskrona IP was constructed and became the club's home. The first match at the new venue was a friendly against Danish club B 1903, which the visitors won 3–2.

The first Allsvenskan match at Landskrona IP took place on 10 August 1924, a 4–0 loss to IFK Göteborg. The record attendance of 18,535 was set on 18 October 1959 in a qualifying match for Allsvenskan against Degerfors IF. The highest Allsvenskan attendance is 17,697, recorded against Malmö FF in 1975. In autumn 2013, the board proposed switching from natural grass to artificial turf, but supporter protests led the municipality to keep natural grass.

After reconstructions in 1990 and 1991, the stadium's capacity was reduced to between 10,000 and 12,000. The top attendance after 1991 is 11,902, set against Helsingborg IF in 2002.

Chairmen

For the first 65 years, the club had only three chairmen: Bror Nilsson, Harry Wibratt, and Claes Munck af Rosenschöld, with a single exception in 1936 when Bror Nilsson's brother Thure held the title. Stability ended in the 1980s; between 1981 and 1995, seven different chairmen served. Kenneth Håkansson then brought a period of stability, overseeing the 2002–2005 Allsvenskan spell. However, from 2005 he proposed various new stadium ideas, each smaller and more expensive, culminating in a plan for a 6,000-seat multi-venue in the harbour area.

After that was rejected, he focused on changes to Landskrona IP. In 2013, he requested artificial turf, but supporter protests and local politicians' refusal led to his fall as chairman. Following relegation from Superettan in 2014, he left the board entirely in 2015. His successor Gabriel Munck helped the club win its regional third-tier league in 2017, returning to Superettan in 2018.
