The Faders were assembled by Polydor Records in 2003. Bassist and keyboardist Toy Valentine and drummer Cherisse Osei were the first members selected through an audition. Frontwoman and lead guitarist Molly Lorenne was later introduced to the band by a mutual friend, completing the lineup. Their debut single 'No Sleep Tonight' reached No. 14 in the UK Singles Chart in March 2005, followed by 'Jump' which reached No. 20 later that year. In April 2005, weeks before the release of their third single 'Look At Me Now', the band was dropped from Polydor. The band responded by wearing T-shirts with 'Polygone' mimicking the Polydor logo. The group disbanded in 2005, as some members did not wish to seek another record deal.

The Faders represent a brief but notable moment in mid-2000s British pop rock, formed and quickly dropped by a major label. Their debut single 'No Sleep Tonight' gained significant exposure through placements in television shows such as Veronica Mars, Grey's Anatomy, and Sugar Rush, as well as commercials for Cingular, VO5, and Vodafone, and the film She's the Man. The song also appeared on the soundtrack of My Super Ex-Girlfriend in a version by Molly Lorenne under her later name Molly McQueen. Despite their short career, the band's music reached a wide audience through media licensing. After the breakup, all three members continued in music: Toy Valentine started a new project, Molly Lorenne signed with EMI before being dropped and performed as Molly McQueen, and Cherisse Osei joined Calaisa, played for Mika and Bryan Ferry, and later joined Simple Minds for their acoustic album and tour.
