Background

In 2104 the colony ship Covenant, carrying 2,000 colonists and 1,140 embryos to Origae-6, is damaged by a shockwave that kills 47 colonists, including Captain Branson. The android Walter wakes the crew, who pick up a human voice from an uncharted planet; against the objections of Branson's widow Daniels, new captain Chris Oram goes to investigate. Spores there breed neomorphs, and the survivors are rescued by David, the earlier android model.
