The stadium began construction in 2011 and was opened in May 2015. It is located on the King Saud University campus in western Riyadh. The stadium was originally named King Saud University Stadium. In November 2020, it was rebranded as Mrsool Park following a sponsorship deal with the delivery company Mrsool. In April 2023, it was renamed Al-Awwal Park after Saudi Awwal Bank signed a $15 million sponsorship deal for three years. Refurbishments are planned from 2030 to 2032 in preparation for the 2034 World Cup. After the World Cup, the stadium will serve as the home for King Saud University teams, with part of the upper tier removed to reduce capacity to 33,000.

The stadium is located on the King Saud University campus in western Riyadh, offering convenient access from the city center. Surrounding the stadium are additional sports facilities, including an arena, swimming pool, and tennis courts. Adjacent to the venue is U Walk, a mixed-use King Saud University development with commercial and retail spaces. The stadium has hosted events such as the Supercoppa Italiana (2019, 2023, 2024–25, 2025–26), Supercopa de España (2024), WWE Crown Jewel (2018, 2022), and PFL 10 (2024).
