The Mushroom War
The war that ended the old world.
The Mushroom War is the mysterious, cataclysmic conflict that destroyed modern human society about a thousand years before Adventure Time, leaving the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo.
Background
In its aftermath Simon Petrikov, the future Ice King, cared for the young Marceline among the ruins. The Lich gained physical form near the end of the war through a mutagenic bomb, and Princess Bubblegum was formed from the Mother Gum in the years that followed.
