**Plot**
The Archangel Michael lands in Los Angeles, cuts off his wings, steals weapons from a warehouse, and takes a police car from a possessed officer. He heads to the Paradise Falls Diner near the Mojave Desert. Meanwhile, Kyle, a single father driving to L.A., stops there. He meets diner owner Bob Hanson; Bob’s son Jeep; short-order cook Percy; pregnant waitress Charlie; married couple Howard and Sandra Anderson; and their rebellious teenage daughter Audrey. The diner’s TV, radio, and phone go dead. Elderly Gladys enters, turns hostile, bites off part of Howard’s neck, and Kyle shoots her. A swarm of flies surrounds the diner, trapping everyone inside and blocking their attempt to get Howard to a hospital.
Michael arrives, arms the group, and the sky goes black. Hundreds of cars full of possessed people attack. Michael leads the defense, but Howard gets dragged away. Michael explains that God has lost faith in humanity and sent angels to wipe us out. Charlie’s baby is the new savior; Michael disobeyed God’s order to kill it because he still believes in humanity and hopes God’s mercy will win out.
The next morning, Sandra finds Howard crucified upside-down behind the diner, covered in boils. She tries to save him, but he explodes into acid. Percy dies shielding her. Sandra goes insane and gets restrained. The survivors hear a radio transmission about other resistance pockets, one nearby. Michael advises against going, saying they’d be too vulnerable on the move.
