Eyes in the Trees

A reimagining of H.G. Wells' The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Last updated

Anthony Hopkins portrays a geneticist whose government funding was cut after a test subject's violent outbreak.[1][2] The story is a modern reimagining of H.G. Wells' novel The Island of Dr. Moreau.[1][3]

Making and release

Anthony Hopkins was set to star in Eyes in the Trees as a geneticist isolated after his research was defunded.[1] The film is directed by Timothy Woodward Jr. and written by B. Harrison Smith and Mike Manning.[1] Production was scheduled to begin in Thailand later in 2024.[4] The extortionists demanded a $200,000 ransom in cryptocurrency by July 22, 2024.[2]

Hillin stated the producers would not pay the ransom and were continuing production.[2]

What the cited sources add

The same source notes the extortionists threatened to release the footage to major streaming services and studios.[2] A Reactormag article describes the film as a "modern reimagining" rather than a straight adaptation.[3] The IFTN news piece confirms that Palisades Park Pictures launched worldwide sales ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival.[4] A Deadline Hollywood report states that the stolen footage consists of every scene Hopkins shot in Los Angeles during the strikes that occurred the previous year.[2]
