Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy

A historical adventure through political scheming and ancestral prophecies.

Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy

Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy is an adventure game created by Kheops, Mzone, and Totm. The project was a co-production involving Elektrogames, Kheops Studio, MC2, Mzone, Totm, and Anuman Interactive, with MC2 handling US publication. Set in March 1566 in Salon-de-Provence, France, the story follows the court of King Charles IX during a tour of the country. His mother, Catherine de Medici, has been under a strange curse and lost her power three years earlier. She seeks help from her doctor and astrologer, Michel de Nostre-Dame (Nostradamus), but he is too exhausted to assist. Instead, his daughter Madeleine offers her services, pretending to be her brother César. Players switch between Madeleine’s true identity and her disguise as César to navigate political intrigue and ancient prophecies. According to Metacritic, the PC version received mixed or average reviews. IGN’s Emily Balistrieri noted that the game may not appeal to players uninterested in learning about astrology.

Lore & Background

The game takes place in March 1566, in Salon-de-Provence, France, when the court of King Charles IX is touring France. His mother, Catherine de Medici, who is the victim of a strange curse, lost power 3 years previously. She decides to pay a visit to her doctor and astrologer, Michel de Nostre-Dame, better known as Nostradamus, but he is too fatigued to help her. It is his daughter Madeleine, under the false identity of her brother César, who offers her services to the queen mother. The player alternates between Madeleine's true self or disguised as César, depending on the situation to search through political scheming and ancestral prophecies.

Reader's Guide

The PC version of Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy received 'mixed or average reviews' according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. Emily Balistrieri of IGN wrote that the game wouldn't appeal to the players if they didn't feel like learning about astrology. The game's significance lies in its unique premise of a female protagonist disguising herself as her brother to navigate court intrigue, and its focus on historical figures and astrological themes. Its legacy is modest, noted primarily for its niche appeal to players interested in history and astrology rather than broad adventure game audiences.
