Characters

Gary Bunda, played by Henry Zebrowski, is a bumbling employee in Hell whose attempts to condemn human souls to damnation often fail. Claude Vernon, portrayed by Craig Rowin, is Gary's younger and more-respected intern who frequently outperforms him; Claude was absent for the first half of season 3 but returned in the episode "Golden Fiddle Week." "Satan," also known as Darren Farley and played by Matt Servitto, is Gary's boss who initially presents himself as the ruler of Hell; in season 3 it is revealed he is actually a demon who rose to middle management and runs the 11th circle of Hell for "Miscellaneous" sins.

Lucas, played by Dana Snyder in seasons 1 and 2, is Gary's still-living former roommate who becomes annoyed when Gary returns to Earth to recruit him. Benji, played by Dan Triandiflou, is a co-worker who makes orientation and instructional videos for Hell; he was formerly a TV weatherman in Charlotte arrested for raping, murdering, and cannibalizing 143 children. Troy Ersatz, also played by Dana Snyder in seasons 3 and 4, is a co-worker who replaced Claude for most of season 3 and often suffers alongside Gary when their schemes backfire; Troy was once temporarily demoted to "tortured soul" status.

Eddie, played by Eddie Pepitone, is a tortured soul frequently victimized by demons; he was briefly promoted to demon status when Troy was demoted but failed at the job due to trauma and a kind heart, and was later demoted after Eddie Pepitone refused to undergo the makeup procedures. Demon William, played by William Tokarsky, appears in 15 episodes across all four seasons and is the first demon seen in the series.
