Gameplay
The game features brawler-style combat and driving sequences. Multiplayer includes cooperative and competitive modes such as Brawl, Energon Match, and Emblem Battle, supporting up to two players with two additional AI-controlled characters; the same character cannot be chosen by multiple players or AIs. The Wii version uses motion controls, while the Wii U, 3DS, and DS versions use touch-based input. Story Mode has 13 stages with varying segments, and only Autobots are playable; completing it unlocks Decepticons for multiplayer. Cybertronian Artifacts hidden in levels unlock gallery artwork.
Plot
The Decepticons intercept a Dark Energon meteor and anchor it to their flagship, the Nemesis. The Autobots arrive, and Optimus destroys the tethering machinery before fighting Megatron. A power eruption on the meteor shatters it, separating the Autobots. Megatron orders them hunted. Ratchet, Jack, Miko, and Raf use the Ground Bridge to track their comrades. Arcee awakens at a factory near Jasper, Nevada, and saves Jack from Airachnid and her Insecticons. Bulkhead and Miko escape Starscream in an underground temple, and Bulkhead defeats him at ancient ruins. Bumblebee is imprisoned in a Decepticon Energon mine; Raf frees him, but Raf is later kidnapped. Ratchet finds Optimus near a piece of the meteor holding Thunderwing, a disciple of Unicron who seeks to destroy the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Optimus weakens Thunderwing, but the Decepticons capture Ratchet and retrieve Thunderwing. Megatron forces Thunderwing to swear allegiance in exchange for freedom and the Matrix, then orders Ratchet to repair Thunderwing and hunt for Cybertronian technology to restore his power.
