Beyond Divinity

A paladin and death-knight soul-forged together must break their bond.

Larian Studios released the action role-playing game Beyond Divinity in 2004 as a follow-up to Divine Divinity. That same year, a Deluxe Edition bundled both games together. A digital download matching the updated disc version arrived in 2009, and a Mac OS X version followed on 15 November 2013.

Gameplay

Gameplay builds on Divine Divinity but allows control of two characters, each with separate stats and equipment. The game has four acts; the first is linear but opens up, and later acts offer more freedom. Each act provides a new summoning doll, such as a skeleton doll in Act 1 that can wield a crossbow. Summons can be directly controlled or used to carry loot. Each act also contains a Battlefield with merchants and optional randomly generated dungeons, accessible via teleport once unlocked.

Synopsis

Set twenty years after the original game, the story follows a paladin who hunts necromancers. During a battle with a necromancer, a demon named Samuel drags the paladin into another universe and soul-forges him to a death-knight. The two must find a way to break the forging, or remain linked eternally.
