Recording and production
A24 began producing the series in August 2020. The Hazbin Hotel Twitter account hinted at the first season’s arrival in December 2021. Originally slated for summer 2023, the release was delayed to January 2024 after the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike halted production. On November 27, 2023, Amazon announced Sam Haft and Emmy-nominated Andrew Underberg as the season’s composers and producers. Haft had previously worked with Medrano on the Hazbin Hotel pilot’s music and the Helluva Boss soundtrack. The 2023 cast reveal included Erika Henningsen as Charlie Morningstar, Jeremy Jordan as Lucifer Morningstar, Stephanie Beatriz as Vaggie, and Alex Brightman as Adam.
Release and promotion
Before the series aired, two singles came out: "Happy Day in Hell" dropped on October 20, 2023, after a preview at New York Comic Con, and "Poison" followed on January 5, 2024. Both were sung live for the premiere audience of the first four episodes, and Medrano uploaded those performances to her YouTube channel on January 17, 2024. Once those episodes launched on January 19, A24 Music and Amazon Prime Video put out an EP called Hazbin Hotel Original Soundtrack (Part 1). A second part arrived on January 26, featuring four songs from "Dad Beat Dad" and "Welcome to Heaven." The final part came on February 1, covering songs from the last two episodes of season one. The next day, the complete soundtrack album was released, containing all 16 songs from the first season.
