History

FSV Frankfurt was a founding member of the Nordkreis-Liga in 1909. During the First World War the league halted, but a regional championship was still held, which FSV won in 1917. After the war the club joined the Kreisliga Nordmain, winning it in 1922–23 and qualifying for the Southern German championship, where it finished last among five teams. The club's highest achievement was a losing appearance in the 1925 national final, 0–1 to 1.

FC Nürnberg, and a German amateur title in 1972 with a 2–1 victory over TSV Marl-Hüls. FSV also contested the 1938 Tschammerpokal final, losing 1–3 to Rapid Vienna. Through the 1920s and 1930s the club played in the Bezirksliga Main and Bezirksliga Main-Hessen. After winning the VSFV championship in 1933, FSV entered the Gauliga Südwest, one of sixteen top-flight divisions formed that year.

The team earned mid-table results, with a best finish of second place in 1939. In 1941 the Gauliga Hessen split into the Gauliga Westmark and Gauliga Hessen-Nassau, with FSV playing in the latter. The club finished close second to Kickers Offenbach in 1943 and briefly merged with SG Eintracht Frankfurt as the wartime side KSG Frankfurt in 1944. The Gauliga collapsed the following season as World War II ended.

Reserve team

The reserve team, FSV Frankfurt II, first rose above local Hesse level in 2010 by winning the Hessenliga and gaining promotion to the Regionalliga Süd. After two seasons that league was disbanded in 2012, and FSV II joined the new Regionalliga Südwest. It was relegated to the Hessenliga in 2013 and disbanded the following year after a rule change that removed the requirement for professional clubs to maintain a reserve side.

Women's department

FSV Frankfurt's women's side won three league titles and five DFB-Pokal trophies, including a 1995 double, before disbanding after 2005-06 due to financial troubles. The club featured several German internationals with 50 or more caps, such as record scorer Birgit Prinz, along with Birgitt Austermühl, Steffi Jones, Sandra Minnert, Sissy Raith, Sandra Smisek, and Britta Unsleber.
