Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe

Barry White's second US chart-topper and first solo number one.

Last updated

Barry White wrote, recorded, and produced this 1974 single, which became his first solo number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B charts. The track opens with White speaking over the music, questioning the idea that too much of anything is bad. It was a gold record and a signature song for him.

Taylor Dayne version

In 1993, Taylor Dayne released a cover of "Can't Get Enough of Your Love," originally by Barry White. Dayne had planned for her self-written song "I'll Wait" to be the lead single and title track of her third album, but Arista Records president Clive Davis pushed for the remake instead, leading to the album being renamed Soul Dancing. The track was produced by C+C Music Factory's David Cole and Robert Clivillés. It became a hit on US dance charts, peaking at number two on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart.

On the Billboard Hot 100, it reached number 20, marking a decline from Dayne's first seven singles, all of which had landed in the top 10; it was her last top 40 hit. The song also hit number 14 on the US Cash Box Top 100. Internationally, it performed well, spending three weeks at number two in Australia in August 1993, where it was the 19th-best-selling single of the year and earned a Platinum certification for at least 70,000 copies. It reached number eight in Canada, ranking as the 67th-best-selling single of the year, and entered the top 20 in Belgium, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
