The main cast includes Lana Condor, Zoe Colletti, Mason Versaw, Aparna Brielle, and Tenzing Norgay Trainor. The show centers on high school student Erika Vu, played by Condor, and her lifelong best friend Gia, played by Colletti.

Their lives get turned upside down after a supernatural occurrence. The series has eight episodes. Critics gave it mixed reviews, earning a 50 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 49 out of 100 on Metacritic.

Background

The series centers on Erika Vu, played by Lana Condor, and her best friend since childhood, Gia, played by Zoe Colletti. Erika has a crush on Jake C. (Mason Versaw), who is in an on-and-off relationship with popular girl Riley (Aparna Brielle), making Riley Erika's frenemy. Gia's love interest is Gavin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor), the leader of a group called The Afterlifers. Recurring characters include Erika's father Dr. Vu, her younger brother Oliver Vu, and her mother Mrs. Vu.

The Afterlifers also include members Sail, Raven, and Brad. A childhood enemy of Erika, Devon (Jason Genao), appears in a guest role. The prom committee is headed by Emma (Madison Thompson). The series was praised for the cast's acting skills, but the script was heavily criticized for trying to be too similar to the 2004 film Mean Girls and the 2019 film Booksmart.
