Season overview

The Great American Baking Show has a complicated history on American television. It began as The Great Holiday Baking Show for its first season, which brought the British Bake Off format back to the U.S. after CBS canceled its earlier version, The American Baking Competition, in late 2013 following just one season. That first ABC season featured six bakers, and Lauren Katz won, beating Nicole Silva and Tim Samson in the finale. The second season, now titled The Great American Baking Show, expanded to ten bakers competing over eight weeks.

Amanda Faber took the title, with Stephanie Chen as runner-up. The third season premiered on December 7, 2017, with a two-hour opener. It marked the first time Ayesha Curry and Anthony Adams hosted, and judge Paul Hollywood returned for the first time since the 2013 CBS show. Baker Antoinette Love, who had left the competition due to a family death, came back.

However, ABC pulled the season from its schedule on December 13, 2017, after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced against judge Johnny Iuzzini, and the network announced it would not air the remaining episodes. On December 21, 2017, the date the finale was originally set to air, ABC revealed that Vallery Lomas had won, with Cindy Maliniak and Molly Brodak as runners-up. The fourth season, called The Great American Baking Show: Holiday Edition, debuted on December 6, 2018.

Anthony Adams returned as host, joined by former Spice Girls singer Emma Bunton. Paul Hollywood was joined on the judging panel by American pastry chef Sherry Yard. Tina Zaccardi won, with Amanda Nguyen and Andrea Maranville as runners-up. The fifth season, another Holiday Edition, premiered on December 12, 2019, with the same hosts and judges.

The ten contestants were Dana Commandatore, Sarita Gelner, Bianca Jackson, Carlos Marquina, Sally Newton, Tanya Clark Ott, Helen Spencer Pantazis, Marissa Troeschel, Alex Willis, and Brother Andrew. Brother Andrew won, and Dana Commandatore and Marissa Troeschel were runners-up. The sixth season moved to The Roku Channel, premiering on May 5, 2023. Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith served as judges, with hosts Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry.

The nine contestants were Martin Sorge, Nirali Chauhan, Stacie Nakamoto, Dyana O'Brien, Susan Simpson, Karis Stucker, Jonathan Gottfried, Sarah Chang, and Sean Liu.
