Offseason
The Thunder went into the 2013 NBA draft holding two picks in the first round and one in the second. Their own first-round selection was the 29th overall. The 12th pick, which originally belonged to Toronto and came to Oklahoma City via Houston in the 2012 James Harden trade, was sent to the Thunder because it landed in the unprotected 4-to-14 range after the lottery. Toronto had only a 2.5% chance of keeping it by moving into the top three. The Thunder also got a second-round pick from the Harden deal that was originally Charlotte’s, which became the 32nd selection. Their own second-round pick for 2013 had already been traded away in the Robert Vaden deal back in 2011. On draft night, the Thunder sent the rights to Archie Goodwin, the 29th pick, and cash to Golden State for the rights to Andre Roberson, the 26th pick. They also sent cash to Portland for the rights to Grant Jerrett, the 40th pick. When the night ended, the Thunder had added Pittsburgh center Steven Adams, Colorado guard Andre Roberson, FC Barcelona guard Alex Abrines, and Arizona forward Grant Jerrett. On July 11, the Thunder completed a sign-and-trade that sent Kevin Martin and cash to Minnesota in a three-team deal, receiving the draft rights to Szymon Szewczyk from Milwaukee and generating a $7 million trade exception. Free agency started July 1, with the moratorium ending July 10. Ronnie Brewer, Derek Fisher, and Kevin Martin were all unrestricted free agents. On July 2, reports said Martin had agreed to a four-year, $28 million contract with the Timberwolves, which he signed nine days later; the Thunder worked out the sign-and-trade to create the exception. On July 24, Fisher agreed to a new deal to remain with the Thunder. On August 28, Brewer signed with the Houston Rockets.
