Cast and characters

Ade Oyefeso plays Sean, a plumber who quits his job to journey to China alongside his closest friend, Dylan. Anders Hayward is Dylan, a university student still working through his feelings for his ex, Lauren. Tim Key takes on the role of Greg, a middle-aged man chasing business success to prove his former partner Daisy wrong; he links up with May and Ashley after splitting the cost of a raft. Alice Lee portrays May, who heads to China to connect with her mother's relatives, forced by her mother to bring along Ashley, a virtual stranger.

Brittney Wilson is Ashley, whose college scholarship hangs in the balance, agreeing to go with May despite their lack of history. Janeane Garofalo appears as Sam, a travel advisor the pair encounter on their flight. Aisling Bea and Trystan Gravelle play Kendra and Eugene, a married couple exploring China. Rachel Redford is Lauren, Dylan's former girlfriend, and Jamie Demetriou plays Norm, her current partner.

Scott Adsit portrays Todd, the operator of an orphanage in Vietnam. Amelia Dowd is Dana, a fill-in tour guide in Malaysia who develops feelings for Sean. Camille Chamoux plays Genevieve, a French backpacker with cancer who becomes close to Ashley in Malaysia. Daniel Rigby is Jotty, an old friend of Greg's who has become a thriving businessman in Kuala Lumpur, with Robert Bathurst as his friend Bertie. Kelly Hu rounds out the cast as Vanessa, May's mother.
