Contestants auditioned before a panel of four judges at venues around the country. Ten performers advanced to studio heats, where one was eliminated each week by the judges until three remained. In the live final, the judges eliminated one contestant after their performance, and a public televote determined the winner. The prize was to record an album and music video. The initial series judges were Owen Powell, Emma Walford, Peredur ap Gwynedd, and Aled Haydn Jones. Emma Walford was replaced by Bethan Elfyn for the second series, and Peredur ap Gwynedd by Huw Chiswell for the third. Eleri Sion presented the show, and Caryl Parry-Jones served as vocal coach from the studio heats onward.
