The New Detectives

Synopsis

The New Detectives focuses on murders committed in North America and the forensic techniques used to convict the perpetrators. The program employs reenactments and dramatizations of events surrounding each murder, occasionally incorporating real-file footage. Unlike the sister show The FBI Files, also produced by Tom Naughton and New Dominion Pictures, The New Detectives primarily covers cases that police departments solve without FBI assistance, though episodes exist where the FBI was called in for particularly serious crimes. The series was narrated by Gene Galusha throughout its run. Anthony E. Zuiker, creator of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, has stated that watching an episode of The New Detectives on the Discovery Channel gave him the idea for his fictional series. Several international episodes were dubbed by Susan Rae, including Burning Evidence, which examined forensics on broken and charred bone and tooth remnants, and Short Fuse, which covered forensics on bomb sites and pipe bomb fragments.
