1996–97 Sacramento Kings season
Kings missed playoffs by two games after mid-season coaching change.
The 1996–97 Sacramento Kings season was the 48th for the franchise and its 12th in Sacramento. After making the playoffs the previous year for the first time in a decade, the Kings drafted Peja Stojaković with the 14th overall pick, though he remained in Greece. The team acquired Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and later signed Jeff Grayer. A slow start and injuries to Brian Grant and Billy Owens contributed to a 34–48 record, sixth in the Pacific Division, missing the playoffs by two games. Mitch Richmond earned All-NBA Second Team honors and appeared in the All-Star Game.
