1994–95 Dallas Mavericks season
Mavericks improved by 23 wins but missed playoffs again.
The 1994–95 Dallas Mavericks season was the 15th for the franchise. The team brought back original head coach Dick Motta after two seasons with a combined 24–140 record. With the second overall pick in the 1994 NBA draft, the Mavericks selected point guard Jason Kidd from the University of California. Former Sixth Man Roy Tarpley returned after a three-year suspension. Kidd, along with Jamal Mashburn and Jim Jackson, formed a new trio. The Mavericks started 12–8 but fell below .500, endured an eight-game losing streak in January, and held an 18–28 record at the All-Star break. They finished fifth in the Midwest Division at 36–46, a 23-game improvement over the previous season, but missed the playoffs for the fifth straight year.
