A mid-season trade sent Johnson, Tyrone Corbin, and Mark West to Phoenix for Larry Nance and Mike Sanders. Despite a six-game losing streak, the Cavaliers won 11 of their final 13 games, finishing 42–40 and earning the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference.
