Production

The film was shot in July 1970 in Calp, Spain, less than a month after Franco completed Vampyros Lesbos and a month before Soledad Miranda's death. The same cinematographer, film editor, and composers from Vampyros Lesbos worked on this film, along with cast members Miranda, Ewa Strömberg, and Paul Muller. The architecture of Ricardo Bofill, especially Xanadu, appears prominently. The plot reuses elements from Franco's Miss Muerte and Venus in Furs.

Reception

Allmovie gave the film its lowest rating of one star out of five, but noted that a distinctive visual style with surrealistic photography by Manuel Merino sets it apart from similar early-1970s sex-horror films. Danny Shipka of Louisiana State University called it one of Franco's strongest films of the 1970s and praised Soledad Miranda's performance as the most intense of her career. Shipka also observed that the film contains Franco's characteristic excesses, including stilted dialogue and unusually prolonged scenes.
