The day after the final episode, BBC Two's In Vision asked if viewers had gained any insight into urban life struggles or truly understood the Wilkins family. On 12 October of the same year, Both Sides of The Family explored similar themes with sociologist Colin Bell and a psychologist, again produced by Paul Watson. BBC Two repeated the series from 17 September to 3 December 1983 to launch a 'Fly on the Wall' season. A 40-minute follow-up called "The After-Years" aired on 10 December, with Franc Roddam and Paul Watson returning. On 6 November, Margaret Wilkins appeared on Did You See...? The series was repeated in a late-night slot from 11 to 29 July 1988 on BBC Two. On 25 July, the Wilkins family were guests on Wogan. "The After-Years" was repeated at 9pm on 30 July in an hour-long slot, followed by a new interview between Margaret Wilkins and Paul Watson. Margaret and Terry divorced three years after the broadcast due to Terry's ill health; both remarried. Margaret, later Margaret Sainsbury, died of a reported heart attack in Berkshire on 10 August 2008 at age 73. Terry died on 31 October 2016 at age 82. The format was revived in 2008.
